Want a brighter, whiter smile? You can get professional teeth whitening procedures either as an in-office treatment or with take-home bleaching trays. Tooth whitening is ideal for you if you have healthy, unrestored teeth – that is, no fillings, and healthy gums. Old restorations can be restored after bleaching so that they match the new colour of your whitened teeth. Remember though, that tooth whitening isn’t permanent, so if you smoke or drink coffee, tea or wine, you may need teeth whitening touch-ups in the future.

In-Office Tooth Whitening

Results are immediate with in-office whitening procedures. The procedure starts by applying a protective gel for your gums, and then a concentrated peroxide gel is placed over your teeth. The peroxide gel sets for 15 minutes and then gets rinsed off. This gel, set, and rinse procedure is repeated a total of three times and the whole procedure takes about one and a half hours. After your dental visit, you’ll be given a special whitening gel and custom-made trays to apply at home to maintain the whiteness of your teeth at home.

Take-Home Tooth Whitening

Take-home whitening still requires two office visits to Westboro Station Dental. At the first dental visit, impressions of your teeth are made to create custom trays. At the second dental visit, you try on the trays to ensure a proper fit and then take home the trays and a special whitening gel either twice a day for 30 minutes of overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the results you are trying to achieve. Tooth sensitivity is normal for both types of whitening options and effects will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.
